MOTD- Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester United
This Round of 16 Champions League game was a great one, with United getting a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu. The game started in Madrid’s favor, and the should have scored in the fifth minute when United defender Rio Ferdinand blocked a cross, but it rebounded to Fabio Coentrao, who’s curling shot was magnificently pushed aside by United keeper David De Gea. Despite United’s goal Madrid continued to control he match, and got their reward for their dominance in the thirtieth minute off another header. An Angle Di Maria cross was met by Cristiano Ronaldo, who had majestically leapt over Patrice Evra, and headed it past a hapless David De Gea and into the back of the net. Unsurprisingly Madrid kept controlling the game, but they could no score again in the half. The second half took a while to get going, with both sides starting a bit cagey, but when it got going it got going good. The first big chance of the half came when a United long ball found Patrice Evra, who forced Raphael Varane to pull him down and despite United’s free kick claims the referee did not give one. The next big chance the next big chance came when a Sami Khedira cross was met by Fabio Coentrao who was creeping in at the back post, and forced a brilliant kick-save out of De Gea. Cristiano Ronaldo got a chance to do one of his signature free-kicks in the eighty-fifth minute, and his shot beat De Gea, but did no get enough dip and hit the top netting. Neither side could get score after that, and they go into the second leg of the tie
1-1.
