Schalke question Drogba appearance

By on February 21, 2013

German club Schalke 04 are considering appealing to Uefa against Didier Drogba’s appearance for Galatasaray in their Round of 16 Champions League match on Wednesday.

“There are doubts about the validity of the permission to play for Drogba in the Champions League. Schalke 04 reserves its rights and is looking into this,” Schalke tweeted.

Schalke were talking about the Ivorian’s move to Galatasaray in January from Shanghai Shenhua, after claiming that his contract with the Chinese club was terminated because of their failure to pay his wages for three months.  But the Chinese club challenged his move, saying that he is still under a two-and-a-half-year contract with them.

If Schalke do win the appeal the two clubs probably would have to replay the match, but that might be bad for Schalke considering they managed a 1-1 draw last night, getting the valuable away goal.
