MOTD preview- Manchester United vs Chelsea

By on March 10, 2013

Chelsea are set to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford, with United looking to bounce back from their recent Champions League loss to Real Madrid.  Both clubs have recently lost in European competition, with Chelsea losing 1-0 in the first leg of their tie with Steaua Bucuresti and United getting knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.  The last three times the two clubs have met there has been five or more goals in the match, and their tie in October (2012) in the Capital One Cup went into extra time with six goals and ended with nine with Chelsea winning 5-4.  Each side has won once in the last three times they met, and one draw has been played out.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently dropped forward Wayne Rooney from the starting lineup for their match against Madrid sparking rumors that the English international was on his way out of the club.  But Ferguson stopped those rumors and said that Rooney will play against Chelsea, although not stating whether he would start or not.  United’s main forward Robin van Persie will be looking to score his twenty-fourth goal of the season and will most definitely start.  Chelsea’s top scorer Juan Mata will be looking to score his eighteenth goal of the season, and will most likely also start.  Whether Mata starts or not the match in sure to be a good one, so look out for my full time review, right here on Football Every Day!
