Appleton sacked after only fifteen games in charge

Blackburn Rovers manager Michael Appleton has been sacked after only 67 days in charge of the English Championship side.  The thirty-seven-year-old took over as Blackburn manger in January after a short spell with Blackpool, and despite winning four of his first seven games in charge, the Englishman has been sacked following a poor run of form.  Appleton’s assistant manager Ashley Westwood, the first team coach Darren Moore, and the head of senior recruitment Luke Dowling have also been sacked, and reserve team manger Gary Bowyer has been put in charge until the end of the season.

“Blackburn Rovers FC can confirm that Michael Appleton has been relieved of his duties as manager along with assistant manager Ashley Westwood, first team coach Darren Moore and head of senior recruitment Luke Dowling,”  a club statement read.

Blackburn are without a win in their last eight games, and their last win was a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup Fifth Round.  Appleton won four, drew five and lost six games in all competitions out of his short fifteen match spell in charge and leaves Blackburn in eighteenth place in the English Championship.

Venky’s, Blackburn’s owners, will be looking for their sixth manager this season, with Appleton, Gary Bowyer, Henning Berg, Eric Black and Steve Kean all plying their trade at Ewood Park.
