Neymar announces Barcelona move
Neymar has announced that he will join Barcelona after the Confederations Cup this summer, with Barca agreeing the €50 million signing of the young Brazilian with Brazilian club Santos, and the winger himself. Although attracting interst from many top European clubs including Real Madrid, Neymar has chosen to move to the club who always seemed destined to get the winger, who has long been linked with a move to Tito Villanova’s side.
The 21-year old is set to sign a five-year contract with Barca on Monday, a deal that will see the forward making €7 million a year. The deal also includes two friendly matches between Barca and Santos, one in Brazil, and one at the Nou Camp.
Neymar will join a Barcelona squad filled with some of the best players in the world, including Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta. The promising young winger has already been capped by Brazil countless times, and was part of their silver medal winning Olympic side at London 2012. Neymar is already one of Brazil most talented players, and is expected to shine at the 2014 World Cup in his homeland Brazil.
”My friends and my family already know of my decision,” Neymar wrote. ”On Monday I will sign a contract with Barcelona.”
The announcement comes shorty after Santos accepted two offers from Real Madrid and Barcelona for the youngster, who was excepted to move to La Liga before the 2014 World Cup, despite having a contract running up until the competition. Neymar’s last game for his boyhood club Santos will be against Flamengo on Sunday, before the forward joins the Brazil squad for next months Confederations Cup. After the international tournament, the Brazilian will begin training with Barca.
‘I want to thank Santos fans for these nine incredible years,” Neymar said. ”My feelings for the club and the fans will never change. I made it sure that I play (this last match) so I can have the opportunity to once again enter the field wearing the team’s jersey and to hear the fan chant my name.”’
Barcelona also confirmed the deal on their official Twitter account, Tweeting:”FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Santos for Neymar. ‘The Brazilian player will join FC Barcelona for the next five seasons.”
