Ronaldo confident in new Madrid deal
Cristiano Ronaldo is confident that he will renew his current contact at Real Madrid, despite rumors of a move away from Madrid. Ronaldo, speaking after Portugal’s 1-0 World Cup Qualifying win over Russia, said that he is sure a new contract from Madrid would be in the offering soon, silencing some heavy rumors that the Portuguese winger would be returning to Manchester United, who sold him to Madrid in 2009 for a record fee of £80 million, or moving on to another wealthy club. The 28-year-old’s current contract at The Bernabeu runs until June 2015, and Ronaldo has confirmed he wants to renew the deal, roughly worth around €450,000 a week.
After Jose Mourinho departed Madrid for Chelsea earlier this week, Ronaldo has been subject to speculation over whether he would follow in his former coach’s footsteps and leave the Bernabeu, possibly to rejoin Manchester United or join other suitors like Paris Saint-Germain. Some claimed Ronaldo would leave Madrid because of the division in the dressing room, but with Mourinho headed for England the issue will likely resolve itself.
But, Ronaldo has put a halt to most all rumors of a transfer, saying: “I am well, calm and not worried about it. I know we will reach a deal (with Madrid).”
Madrid president Florentino Perez has also said the winger will stay at Madrid: “Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid, that is his dream”, earlier this week. While Perez, who has called Ronaldo “priceless” is confident the 2008 Ballon d’Or winner would sign a new contract, reports from Spain have also suggested that a new deal may be signed soon.
Ronaldo, proud father of Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., rose through the ranks at Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon before moving to Manchester United in 2003. At United, he won the Champions League in 2008, three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three four other major titles, but decided to move on to Madrid in the summer of 2009. In his first season in Madrid Ronaldo won the Copa del Rey, before winning the La Liga in 2011/12, but went trophy-less last season despite scoring 34 goals in 34 league appearances.
