Everton have revealed their new crest for the 2013/14 season to the delight of fans and manager Roberto Martinez. The London-based club received criticism from fans in May when they launched an updated club crest which removed the motto “Nil statis nini optimum” – nothing but the best is good enough – from the badge. Although the Toffes apologized for not consulting the public when changing the badge, they recently opened an online poll to let fans choose between three new club crests.

A vast majority of fans voted to return the motto to the badge, with 78% of fans voting to install the winning crest.  Even manager Roberto Martinez was pleased with the new badge, saying:

“I was impressed straightaway when I saw it but there has been a huge majority of fans [78% of 13,229 respondents] have chosen this one,” Martinez said following the unveiling of the crest.

“It captures what we were looking for: to have a modern touch and to be a global badge without taking away all the key icons of the football club.

“Certain icons represent many years of history and that is important: fans made it clear they wanted to see the tower and our motto and I think it is important ‘Nil satis’ is back on the badge.

“It has been terrific work from the club as it was important to come up with something which pleases everyone.”
