20131221-211905.jpgBayern Munich added the Club World Cup to their rapidly growing trophy cabinet in one swift stroke by easily outdoing Raja Casablanca 2-0 in Morocco. Two first half goals from Pep Guardiola’s side officially made Bayern the best club in the wolrd, a status Guardiola had become accustomed to at Barcelona and followed up the treble they won last season.

Against the champions of Morocco in the final it was hard to see any other outcome, and Bayern certainly dominated in the opening minutes, finding the opening goal after just five minutes. Jerome Boateng brought down a corner from the right on the edge of the box before playing it to Dante, who was almost certainly offsides on the six yard line, and the center-back turned with the ball prior to firing it past Casablanca goalkeeper Askri into the back of the net.

Bayern remained in complete control, doubling their lead in the twenty second minute when David Alaba cut in from the left before laying it off for Thiago Alcantara to curl into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. Dante then fired Franck Ribery’s corner just over the crossbar, but Casablanca came within inches of grabbing one back in the thirty-seventh minute. A horribly mishit clearance from Manuel Neuer fell straight at the feet of Chemseddine Chtibi twenty-five yards out from goal, and noticing Neuer out of goal the Moroccan international smacked a shot centimeters wide of the frame.

Yet Casablanca somehow found the chances falling for them as the second half began, with Mouhssine Lajour heading into the arms of Neuer in the fifty-seventh minute. Xherdan Shaqiri had his six-yard effort from Philip Lahm’s low cross from the right cannon back off the crossbar, but Vianne Mabide thad his low fifteen yard shot parried away by Neuer to give something for Casablanca fans to cheer for as Bayern fans sang away minutes before they became the world champions. Three minutes of stoppage time later the title was confirmed, with the full time whistle making the Germans the Club World Cup champions.
