Ones to watch over the international break

By on November 11, 2014

Sigh. Yet another international break (a third in three months, if you are counting), is upon us, although at least there will not be another until the new year. Why the glumness? For the most part, due to the Euro’s changes in qualifying format, as we have covered, rendering most of it pointless for the bigger nations. However, you might as well make the most of it – so here are three players to look out for over the break.

Saido Berahino (England)
England’s newfound forward talent may earn his first senior international cap after an incredible start to the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in eleven appearances, totaling to half of The Baggies goals so far this season. Burundi-born, Berahino is a stocky forward, but quite clinical and creative. Certainly, he could be Wayne Rooney’s predecessor if he continues at the rate of growth he has shown. England will play Slovenia on Saturday and Scotland in the eighteenth, giving Berahino two well deserved chances at his first senior international cap.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (Argentina and Portugal)
You always want to look out for Ronaldo and Messi undoubtedly the two best players in the world for the past seven or eight years, no matter the occasion, however this time their is very special reason. Argentina will be facing Portugal, in a friendly, of course, on the eighteenth, but the non-competitive aspect won’t take away from the contest between the two players, especially after recent reports suggesting conflict between the two. Furthermore, the match will be played at Old Trafford, Ronaldo’s former home at Manchester United, where he should receive massive support.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s outsourced talent
From college players in USA’s last international break, USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann has now gone to back to college, Mexico, Germany’s second division, the NASL, and if that isn’t enough even as far as Utrecht in Rubio Rubin, to pool youth talent. The subjects in name are Jordan Morris, who we scouted here, Greg Garza, Alfredo Morales, Miguel Ibarra, and Rubin. Gold star if you previously knew any of those players, though that doesn’t rule out their potential affect on the future national team.
