Blackburn set to show no Mercy for Duffy!

Blackburn Rovers are set to show no Mercy to Irish defender Shane Duffy, with Duffy having the sort of week Mr. Bean would be proud of! Duffy suffered from a total lack of Mercy from the footballing gods against Cardiff City on Wednesday night, enduring an unfortunate run of bad luck . The twenty-four-year-old scored two own goals in Rovers’ 2-1 defeat against the Welsh side and then was sent-off in stoppage time for kicking the ball away. He also scored an embarrassing ‘OG’ in the Championship in their loss to Wigan Athletic earlier in the week.

Owen Coyle’s Blackburn are now looking to move Duffy on, as he is bringing no luck to the team struggling at the wrong end of the second tier. The Republic of Ireland international also got sent-off in the Euros this summer against hosts France. Duffy will be begging for his current club to be kind when selling him before the window shuts, as his last few performances are unlikely to have attracted admires like Barcelona or Real Madrid. He was suspended in the first game Blackburn picked up any points this season, as the Rovers drew 2-2 with Burton Albion.

Friday scores on Thursday!

A player called “Friday” scored for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off round. Friday scored on a Thursday, with his strike the first in a 3-0 commanding away win for AZ — giving the team from Holland a strong chance of making the group stages. Belgian forward Stijn Wuytens bagged a brace against Serbians FK Vojvodina to seal the away victory, with Wuytens also relatively new to the club currently fourteenth in the Dutch top flight.

Fred Friday is a twenty-one-year-old striker, who only signed for the Eredivisie side in July 2016. Friday wears the number 27 jersey and is a Nigerian national. He signed a four-year deal with his new club this summer and was presented to the media on, you guessed it, a Friday! He joined from Norwegian outfit Lillestrom SK, where he bagged twenty-two goals in fifty-seven games in the league and twenty-eight in sixty-three overall. That Friday Feeling belongs to Alkmaar in the Europa League this week.

Seeing Double at Bournemouth!

Bournemouth seem capable of only signing new players with the same surname of squad members already at the club. That especially applies this summer, as Australian Brad Smith signed from Liverpool for £6 million and nineteen-year-old Lewis Cook joined from Leeds – also for an initial £6 million fee.

This week began with manager Eddie Howe recruiting Irish defender Marc Wilson from Stoke for £2 million on a two-year deal, which means there are now three pairs of players with the same surname at the Vitality Stadium this season.

Cherries are Two Timers when it comes to Transfers:

Lewis Cook (Midfielder)
Steve Cook (Defender)

Brad Smith (Defender)
Adam Smith (Defender)

Marc Wilson (Defender)
Callum Wilson (Striker)
