Arsene Wenger says he would never resign

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he’s “never though about quitting Arsenal” despite being on the worst trophy drought of his twenty-nine year managerial career.  But sixty-four year old did not say whether he will sign a new contract when his current one ends in 2014.

“Never, not for one second,” he said in response to questions about him quitting. “The love for the game and the love to win (keeps me motivated).

“My spark has nothing to do with the length of your life. It is just how you are. You are motivated by how much you want to win and how much you want to be a winner. If I go out against you now in a one-on-one, you will see that I will beat you. At least if I don’t, I will want to beat you. That will be the same so long as I can move.”

But Wenger did hint that he might leave the club in 2014 when his current contract ends.

“I have a contract until the end of 2014 and at the moment we are on a short-term plan. This is for two reasons, because I am here for a long time and as well I have to consider what I want to do. That will be decided in 2014, not before.”

Arsenal have not won a trophy in eight years, and will most likely have to wait another season before they claim their next trophy after crashing out of the FA Cup to Blackburn Rovers, going out of the Capital One Cup via Bradford, and needing a miracle to progress in the Champions League after losing 3-1 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their tie.
