MOTD preview- Real Madrid vs Barcelona

By on March 1, 2013

This El Clasico is going to be fascinating, as Barcelona try to get back at Madrid for Madrid’s 3-1 win over them at Nou Camp on Tuesday in the Copa del Rey Semifinals, while Madrid have one eye on the week’s encounter with Manchester United in the Champions League.  Madrid deserved to win the last Clasico, which will worry Barca, who also lost 2-0 in their most recent Champions League match against AC Milan on February 20.  The two clubs will be looking to get their best players, (and the two best in the world), Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the scoreboard and both teams will be attempting to stop the opposition’s key scorer.  Ronaldo has scored two goals in his last three games, both in El Clasico on Tuesday, but Messi has only scored one in his last three because Madrid and Milan both kept him at bay magnificently.

Worryingly for Barca though, they have been on bad form and their style of play has been predictable, and easily subdued by Madrid on Tuesday and AC Milan a week ago.  Barca will be expected to start forward David Villa, who brings them another attacking option and who surprisingly did not start on Tuesday.  Madrid will be looking to tap into the form from Tuesday, when Ronaldo scored two goals and Raphael Varane scored one to beat Barca 3-1.  But Barca will trying to revert to good form, and a win at the Santiago Bernabeu (Madrid’s home stadium) could be just the right cure.  But if they win or not the match is sure to be exciting, so look out for my halftime and full time reviews, right here on Football Every Day!
