MOTD- Swansea City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have gotten a good 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, with Spurs rising above Chelsea into thir place in the Premier League. Tottenham started the match on top, and amazingly took the lead in the sixth minute when Jan Vertonghen played the ball to Gareth Bale in the center of the Swansea half. Vertonghen ventured forward, and Bale chipped the ball above the Swansea defense to Vertonghen. The center-back took the ball out of the air, and coolly volleyed past Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm to put Tottenham 1-0 up. Spurs started to dominate possession, with Swansea starting to fall out of the match. Tottenham almost doubled their lead in the twelfth minute when a brilliant through ball put Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international took the ball into the box, and hit a low shot on goal, but the shot was easily saved by an oncoming Vorm.

Spurs stayed on top, and doubled their lead in the twentieth minute when Vertonghen played the ball to Bale right outside the Swansea box. Bale hit a beautiful first-time outside of the boot shot that curled into the corner of the net leaving Vorm hapless. Swansea started to get themselves back into the match, but needed a miracle to come back into the match before halftime. The Swans almost scored in the thirtieth minute when Nathan Dyer met a cross form two yards out from goal. Dyer’s header looked like it was in, but hit the top crossbar and bounced wide. Tottenham slowed the tempo of the match, and neither side could score again before the break, and after two minutes of injury time, the first half ended 2-0.

Swansea started the second half much attackingmindedly than they were in the first half, with Michu looking much more dangerous.  The Spaniard almost grabbed Swansea their first goal of the match in the forty-seventh minute when Wayne Routledge played him in on goal with a quick free-kick.  Michu took the ball up to Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedal, and tried to dink the ball past the American, but Friedal did well to save the low shot.  Three minutes later Tottenham almost put the game to bed, but Vorm magnificently tipped Gylfi Sigurdsson’s dipping shot from the edge of the box over the bar.

Michael Laudrup’s side continued to pressure Spurs, and Michu almost found the back of the net in the fifty-third minute, but headed wide from the center of the box following good build-up play from Swansea.  Swansea finally managed to find the back of the net in the seventy-first minute when they forced a corner out of Tottenham.  Ki Sung-yueng swung a superb cross into the box, and Michu rose up to meet it.  Michu flicked a header to the back post, and it hit the inside of the post and flew into the back of the net to give Swansea hope.

Tottenham almost put the match to bed in the seventy-third minute when Bale rounded two Swansea defenders before curling a shot to the far post.  The shot curled past Vorm, but hit the outside of the post and bounced out.  Swansea looked like they would score an equalizer, and Gareth Bale was forced into some late heroics as he blocked Nathan Dyer’s shot in the last minute of the match.  Tottenham held on for the six minutes of injury-time announced by the fourth official, to get a 2-1 win and take them into third place above Chelsea in the Premier League table.
