Ferguson criticizes referee Mike Dean following Manchester derby loss

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has criticized referee Mike Dean following United’s 2-1 loss in the Manchester derby for allowing City’s first goal of the match, which Ferguson has claimed should have been disallowed for offside on Carlos Tevez.  Ferguson argued that Tevez was in an offside position and obscuring United goalkeeper David De Gea’s view when James Milner hit a low shot, resulting in a goal for City.

“The first goal, certainly Tevez is interfering with play,” Ferguson said.   “But the linesman on the other side? There is no way he was giving that. It was disappointing as he was clearly in the road of the goalkeeper. If that is not interference then I don’t know what is.

“I think we were unlucky to lose the game,” The Scot added.   “But it is easy to see why these were the best two teams in the country – the evidence was there tonight.”

Sergio Aguero’s wonder goal gave Manchester City a 2-1 win in the derby, which did not have any impact on the title race that United have already won, but was still a blow for United, who have been eliminated from the Capital One Cup, FA Cup, and the Champions League, and only have the Premier League title left to play for.
