MOTD preview- Manchester United vs Manchester City

Manchester United will be determined not to let Manchester City rain on their parade in the Manchester derby, as The Red Devils look set to win the Premier League trophy for the thirteenth time. United have a fifteen point lead over City at the top of the table, and with only eight games left in the season, even if City win, it is highly improbable for them to mount a late comeback and reclaim the title they won last season.

Despite the loss of intrigue that the match normally sparks because of the title race being rapped up, the match is sure to be very exciting, with City manager Roberto Mancini already fanning the flames by claiming United don’t deserve their fifteen point lead at the top of the table. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also joined the conversation, claiming that despite being on a nine match goalless run, forward Robin van Persie will feature in the match.

Both sides have been on fantastic form, despite an occasional hiccup, such as City’s 2-0 loss to Everton and United’s a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea in the FA Cup quarterfinals. United have not lost in a Premier League match since November, and have won nine of their last ten Premier League matches. City have only lost one of their last six matches in all competitions, and have only failed to win five matches since early December. United only have the Premier League left to play in, having been knocked out of the FA Cup, Capital One Cup, and Real Madrid eliminating them from the Champions League. City meanwhile are still in the FA Cup, and are set to play Chelsea in the semifinals at Wembley this weekend.

Derby wins have been equally shared between the clubs since April 2011, at three apiece. The last derby was back in December when Robin van Persie’s injury time free-kick sealed United a 3-2 win at The Etihad. City’s most recent win was a 1-0 win in the Premier League back in April 2012, and The Blues claimed a magnificent 6-1 win at Old Trafford earlier in the 2011/2012 season.
