MOTD preview- Liverpool vs Chelsea

By on April 21, 2013

Rafa Benitez will return to his old club Liverpool, with Chelsea set to take on the Reds at Anfield in a heated Champions League qualification battle.  Benitez was appointed Chelsea interim manger following the sacking of Roberto Di Mateo despite the fans disliking of the manager to to his history with Liverpool.  Now, for the first time since 2010, Benitez will make the familiar walk through the gates of Anfield.  He took over as Liverpool in 2004, and while he lives in a one-bedroom flat in London, Benitez’s family still live in Liverpool, and although being sacked in 2010 his bond with the club ticks most Chelsea fans off.

Chelsea have been on relatively bad form, with their 3-0 win over Fulham being their first win in three matches. , and only their second away win in 2013.  Liverpool have also been on poor form, drawing their last two matches 0-0.  The Reds have only won twice out of their last five matches in all competition, although they will be boosted by their recent dominance of this fixture. Chelsea have not beaten Liverpool in the Premier League since 2010, although they did beat The Reds 2-1 in the FA Cup last season.  Whether Chelsea can turn around that stat or not, the match is sure to be exciting, so look out for my full time review, right here on Football Every Day!
