Mourinho hints at Madrid exit to join Chelsea

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has yet again hinted that he will re-join his former club Chelsea at the end of the season.  After watching Madrid getting knocked out of the Champions League in the semifinals for the third year in a row with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund (Madrid lost 4-3 on aggregate), the fifty-year old again cast doubt on his Madrid career.  The Portuguese manager enjoyed a three year term at Chelsea from 2004 to 2007, and won the English Premier League, and also reaching the Champions League finals during his reign in England.  Mourinho has already hinted multiple times that he would like to return to the Blues when he leaves Madrid, which will most likely be this summer.

When asked whether he would leave Madrid in the summer in the ITV interview area Madrid’s 2-0 win over Dortmund, Mourhino responded “Maybe not,” adding: “I want to be where people love me to be.”

Although his contract with Madrid runs until 2016, Mourinho has against slammed the Spanish media, fueling speculation that he would leave Madrid for Chelsea over the summer.

“I know in England I’m loved,” Mourinho told reporters. “I’m loved by the fans, I’m loved by the media that treats me in a fair way, criticizing me but giving me credit when I deserve it. I know I’m loved by some clubs, especially one (Chelsea).

“In Spain, the situation is a bit different because some people hate me. Many of you are in this room.

“I didn’t make a decision because I have a contract. But more than a contract, because in football contracts you break it when people want to break, is the respect I have for the club and the respect I have for the president.

“I like the club, I like the president, I need to be honest and fair and at the end of the season I speak.”

“The Special One” also commented on Madrid’s 2-0 win over Dormtund, which turned out to not be enough to seal Madrid a spot in the finals, criticizing referee Howard Webb’s decision not to send off Mats Hummels for a handball late in the game.

“In football you win or you lose,” he told ITV. “I think we could [have won]. We had a couple of big chances but as a consequence of the way we were playing in the last part of the match where we risked absolutely everything.

“I think today we were a team with character, a team with desire and we thought we could do it. I don’t forget the first match and in the first match we were very, very bad and we have been punished because of the first leg.

“I am very sad with one of my favourite referees in the world, I am very disappointed. It is a red card for Mats Hummels, he saw it (a handball), everybody saw it but in that moment he was not a ref he was a human being. He thought ‘if I give him a red card here, he misses the final’.”
