Liverpool have announced the signing of Manchester City’s Kolo Toure, who will move to Anfeild in on June 1st when his current contract ends at.  The Ivorian passed his medical on Tuesday, and will replace the retiring Jamie Carragher in the center of the Liverpool defense.  Liverpool have already lost Carragher in their defense, and could lose important defenders Martin Skrtel and Sebastián Coates over the summer, resulting in the club’s move for Toure.  The underrated 32-year-old won has won the Premier League once with Arsenal, and was part of the Gunners legendary undefeated side in 2004.  Although a move to City in 2009 after establishing himself as one of the best center-backs in the Premier League saw the Ivory Coast international cast aside by manager Roberto Martinez, he won the Premier League with the club in 2009, and won his third FA Cup in 2011.

The experienced defender, who has made 103 appearances for the Ivory Coast national side, has signed a two-year contract at Anfield and will become an inexpensive cover for the shaky Liverpool defense.

A statement on Liverpool’s official website read: “Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principle with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1. The powerful defender will be registered as a Reds player when his current deal with Manchester City expires.

“Toure, 32, will arrive at Anfield boasting a wealth of experience having represented both City and Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League since switching to English football in 2002 and add depth to Brendan Rodgers’ defensive ranks ahead of 2013-14.”
