Suarez admits Madrid interest

Luis Suarez has admitted that he may be forced out of English football by the media, encouraging potential suitors including Real Madrid to make a bid for the Uruguayan forward. Suarez also told radio station Sport 890 that he would be open to moving to Madrid, who are one of the only clubs who can afford the forward, who’s release clause is reported to be in excess of 40 million pounds, if a bid did come from the Spanish giants.

Suarez has been heavily criticized by the English media because of his poor disciplinary record, and will have to serve out the remaining six matches of his ten match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Anfield at the beginning of the 2013/14 season if he sticks with Liverpool. The ban marks the low light of yet another turbulent season for Suarez, who was given an eight match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra in the 2011/12 season, and has been known for diving throughout his Liverpool career.

Although scoring 30 goals for The Reds last season, the 26-year-old admitted that the media may force him away from England: “I love Liverpool, but if there is a chance of playing somewhere else … I suffered too much as a kid to get where I am to be attacked unfairly by the English press,” Suarez told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890. “They haven’t appreciated me as a player, they’ve just judged my attitude.

“I’m happy at Liverpool, I’m happy because of the fans. I made a mistake, I’m human, but [the press] talked about me in ways they shouldn’t have. My family have suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I’m not prepared to continue to put up with the English press.”

“I’ve talked to my agent, there’s nothing concrete. To say no to Madrid would always be difficult and more so with the team they have,” Suarez added. “I have a contract with Liverpool, but it would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid. There are a lot of rumors in the transfer period, but you never know until firm offers are made.

“I’ve talked to the coach [Rodgers], and he knows what I want. He was a player. Some of the players understand my situation – enough said.” He added that Liverpool ahve treated him well and he had “only words of thanks for the fans”.
