Iago Aspas to undergo Liverpool medical

Liverpool are close to signing Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo 

Liverpool are close to completing their second signing if the summer transfer window Iago Aspas, with the Spanish forward set to undergo a medical at Anfield on Tuesday. The Celta Vigo player travelled to Liverpool on Monday to finalize his £7.7 million move to Brenden Rodgers side, having agreed personal terms Liverpool.

With Luis Suarez’s future at Anfield becoming increasingly hard at make out, Liverpool manager Brenden Rodgers has felt the need to a avoid last minute scramble to sign a forward if Suarez was to make his predicted move to Real Madrid. While Aspas originally had a €10 million (£8.5m) release clause, Liverpool managed to negotiate the player’s price down to £7.7 million (around €9m), which was the forward’s release clause if Celta had suffered relegation from La Liga, which they avoided on the last day of last season.

Aspas is an accomplished forward who 12 goals in Celta’s return to the Spanish top-flight last season, after scoring 18 goals with the club during his 6 year term with his boyhood club in the Segunda Division.  Brenden Rodgers has had Aspas tracked throughout last season, and has beaten suitors including Swansea City and Valencia to signing the forward.  He will become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the club announced the addition of Kolo Toure on a free transfer, while the Mersyside club are also looking to complete the £4 million purchase of young forward Luis Alberto from Sevilla.
