Midweek Musings: Top five summer transfer targets Part 2
As the official beginning to the summer transfer window looms closer and closer, we here at Football Every Day need to bring you Part 2 of the Top five summer transfer targets.
Some big name signings, including those of Neymar and Wilfred Zaha have already been completed, but rising stars or seasoned veterans who might be moving this summer haven’t signed their million-dollar contracts at a new club yet. So here, we will give you three of the top five summer transfer targets.
Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur & Wales)
The hottest property in World football at the moment still hasn’t decided his future, whether it be at Tottenham Hotspur or not. The winger was in hot form last season, scoring 26 goals in 44 appearances for Spur’s, confirming himself as the club’s main attacking force. While Tottenham are desperate to keep the 22-year-old, the lure of a mega-money move and Champions League football could be too strong to resist for Bale.
The Welshman originally began his senior career as a left back, but former Tottenham manager Harry Redknap tested Bale’s tremendous pace at left wing, the position which he has played ever since. Although also able to play forward, Bale’s control of the ball and ability to blow by players makes him the ideal winger, as many top European clubs see him.
Real Madrid appear most interested in Bale, and the prospect of working alongside Zinedine Zidane, who was recently appointed Madrid’s assistant coach, could fire up a potential move as it did for Malaga’s Isco. Manchester United are also interested in signing the Welsh international, who could fill the void Cristiano Ronaldo left in the side after leaving Old Trafford in 2009. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City are also suitors of the winger.
Value: £80 million
Thiago Alcantara (Barcelona & Spain)
Under-21 starlet Thiago Alcantara has been looking to move away from Barcelona after appearing second or third fiddle to Xavi last season, sparking up the interest of top English clubs including Manchester United. The European Under-21 Championships most valuable player mainly made his 27 La Liga appearances last season as a substitute, and his incredible skills that come with rising up through the ranks at La Masia have made him hot property.
The player recently turned 22, and could be the perfect fit for Manchester United, who have notably lacked a solid center-midfielder for some time. Thaigo looks set to join the Red Devils, but he has also received attention from other top clubs like Manchester City.
Value: €22 million
Look out for our final addition to the top five transfer targets, naming one last player who made to top five.
