Liverpool reject £41m Arsenal bid for Suarez

20130723-212739.jpgLiverpool have rejected Arsenal’s reinforced £41 million bid for Luis Suarez out of hand, maintaining their view of the forward’s worth being above £50m. Despite Liverpool’s attempts to ward of any potential suitors Arsenal are desperate to sign Suarez, and have now made a club-record £41m bid for the 26-year-old after they had their ridiculous £30m also deemed unacceptable.

Liverpool were even angered by the Gunner’s second bid, with the Red’s chief executive Ian Ayre previously telling Arsenal’s counterpart Ivan Gazidis an offer of £40m would never be accepted. Liverpool manager Brenden Rodgers also warned Suarez’s suitor’s that he viewed the Uruguayan to be worth as much as Edison Cavani, who recently moved to Paris Saint-Germain for £55.6 million.

Arsenal were hoping to sign a world-class forward coming into the summer transfer window, and although they looked close to signing Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain the deal fell through. Now they have turned their attention to the English Premier League’s second highest scorer last season, despite Suarez being unable to play in Arsene Wenger’s side’s next six Premier League matches. The “Cannibal of Ajax” was banned ten matches by the FA late last season for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, and will still be unable to play in England until late September.

Real Madrid are interested in Suarez for that reason as a move away from England seemed likely for the former Ajax forward, and Los Blancos could certainly provide a much higher bid than Arsenal’s despite their £30m+ accusations of Isco and Asier Illarramendi this summer.

Suarez scored 30 goals in 44 appearance in all competitions for Liverpool last season, and has scored 35 goals for Uruguay since earning his first cap for the South American nation in 2007. The forward’s outstanding aerial and technical ability also help him create goals, and Suarez provided fifteen assists for Liverpool last season.
