Capoue will join Paulinho as another one of Spurs’ summer acquisitions, subject to a medical, as the club boost their midfield talent.

The 26-year-old will enjoy fierce competition for the holding midfielder role in Andreas Villas-Boas’ side, with the playmaker currently standing behind Sandro and Paulinho in pecking order. Still, Capoue is certain he will have enough playing time, which will also be boosted by Sandro’s injuries sidelining him for the start of the season.

Capoue has won six caps for France’s national side and attracted the interests of Atletico Madrid and Cardiff City because of his solid performances in Toulouse’s midfield and center defense last season. The former France Under-18, Under-19, and Under-21 international made 38 appearances in all competitions last season, bagging seven goals and four assists for the Ligue 1 side. Although he looked set to join newly promoted Premier League side Cardiff, Tottenham won the race for Capoue’s signature in a bid to make up for the potential loss of Gareth Bale.
