Cristiano Ronaldo informs Manchester United he is keen on a return to Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo has told former club Manchester United he wants an eventual return to Old Trafford, probably in a move at the end of his career. After Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid from United in 2009 The Red Devils have looked into the 28-year-old’s status in Madrid for the last year to prepare for a potential bid in the next few seasons.

Jose Mourinho’s falling out with Madrid last season greatly quickened the deterioration of Ronaldo’s relationship with Los Blancos, while the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur is also understood to have maddened the winger. Bale, who plays nearly the exact same style of football as Ronaldo, will be competing against the Portuguese international for the crown of Madrid’s star player.

Although Ronaldo is in talks about signing a new contract at the Bernabeu, which is thought to be worth more than Bale’s 10 million euros-a-year after-tax salary, United are deeply interested in Madrid’s top goalscorer. Multiple ploys have been used to strengthen the remaining bonds between the English club and Ronaldo, but the English champions’ good relationship with the former Ballon d’Or winner’s agent Jorge Mendes will be key if a more serious bid to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester is launched next summer.

Ronaldo will be turning 30 next season, but his worth and commercial value to Madrid is clearly still enough to make an attempt to sign him extremely pain-staking.
