Everton to offer Baines new long-term contract

Everton are keen to reward Manchester United target Leighton Baines with a new new long-term contract that will make the left-back Goodison Park’s top-earner. Baines’s has two-years left on his current deal at Goodison Park, believed to be worth £50,000-a-week, but Everton are looking to keep Baines from being attracted to Manchester United by making him The Toffes’ highest earner via a new long-term contract thought to nourish Baines with 75,000-a-week.

Although Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright is certainly aware United’s bid to capture the 28-year-old is far from over, especially after The Red Devil’s failed bid to bring in Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao on loan, the new contract, if accepted, will make The Red Devil’s manager David Moyes wary of approaching Baines a second time. The Red Devils already signed Marouane Fellaini from the Mersyside club in a deadline day deal, but Everton manager Roberto Martinez claims not only that Bains will be offered a new contract, as many Everton players could sign new deals in order to possibly make any suitors of their top players wary.

“Now the window is closed, we are going to look into all of the players in the squad and see where their contracts are up to,” he said. “It would have created more instability if we had done that while the window was open.’

The former Wigan manager also highlighted Baines’ talent, saying:

“From having interest to a situation where you have consider a move is very different. Leighton is a very special footballer and a special player for Everton and we are looking forward to him enjoying the challenge that lies ahead. The window is over and there is a good opportunity to concentrate on football. That’s the way it should be.”
