Nani pens new five-year deal at Manchester United

Nani has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal at Manchester United despite The Red Devil’s summer acquisition of Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha. The Portuguese international was expected to leave Old Trafford over the summer after falling out of fashion with former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, but stayed in Manchester as manager David Moyes seems to have him in his current plans.

The 26-year-old moved to United in 2007 from Sporting Lisbon labeled as “the next Cristiano Ronaldo”, and when Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in 2009 Nani was expected to take the World Player of the Year winner’s place. Although the winger has hauled in an impressive trophy count over his six years at the club, he failed to live up to his billing and made only 57 appearances for United since the start of the 2011/12 season.

Now with Zaha joining Moyes’ was expected to sell at least one of either Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, or Nani, but he didn’t let any of them go before the transfer window closed on September second.

Still, The former Everton manager was full of praise for his fourth choice winger, who can play on either sides, when he announced that Nani has agreed the new contract that will tie him to the club until 2018.

“I’m really pleased Nani has re-signed for the next five years,” Moyes said. “He has great ability and experience and beyond his 26 years.”

“I’ve been impressed with his approach to training and look forward to working with him in the coming seasons.”
