Roberto Mancini has come out of unemployment with Galatasaray appointing him their new manager

Roberto Mancini has been appointed manager of Galatasaray on a three-year contract, replacing Fatih Terim as the Turkish club’s fifth boss in four years.

Mancini was sacked by Manchester City at the end of the 2012/13 season despite leading the English club to their first ever Premier League title just a season earlier.  The Italian also won the 2010/11 FA Cup during his four year stay at the Etihad, yet was sacked because of his side’s poor showing in the Uefa Champions League, a competition which he never advanced past the group stage at City.
Galatasaray announced the 48-year-old as their new manager via their official Twitter account, and Mancini told the club’s Twitter feed: “I am very happy to come to a club as big as Galatasaray. The Galatasaray-Juventus match will be a happy coincidence for me.”

Although Galatasaray have spent a considerable amount of money on new signings over the past year or so, with both Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba moving to the Istanbul-based club, the Turkish champions have had a poor start to both their domestic and continental campaigns  Including a 6-1 drubbing by Real Madrid in the Champions League the club have only won one of their opening five Super Lig matches, leaving Mancini with a hard task ahead of him.  The former Lazio manager’s first match in charge will be against Juventus in the Champions League Group Stage, a tough opener for Mancini’s tired side.
