Cristiano Ronaldo bagged two more goals to sink Juventus in the Champions League

Real Madrid made a meal of ten man Juventus but eventually saw out a thrilling 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu.  Cristiano Ronaldo bagged two more goals and the three points were won, but Real Madrid had to work for their first win over Juventus since 2005.  Carlo Ancelotti conceded thirteen shots, and only some brilliant goalkeeping from Spanish international Iker Casillas kept Madrid in the match.

Juventus gave Madrid a rough opening minutes, with the away side nearly taking the lead after only a minute when Claudio Marchisio spanked a fierce effort destined for the top corner from twenty-five yards out.  Casillas managed to tip the shot wide of the post, and the resulting corner came to nothing.  Yet just moments later Madrid unexpectedly took an early lead as Angel Di Maria cut in from the left before slipping a neat ball in to the run of Ronaldo down the right side of the box.  Ronaldo took two touches to round Gianluigi Buffon, and cut a shot into the back of the net to put Madrid in front.

Madrid took advantage of Juventus’ shot at going behind so early, and began to dominate, although the visitors slowly started to find their way back into the match.  So much so that they found an equalizer by the twenty-third minute when Martin Caceres floated a stunning cross from the right towards the back post, where Paul Pogba snapped a low header back to goal.  Casillas only just managed to push the effort off the line, but couldn’t stop Fernando Llorente’s follow up volley from whipping into the bottom corner of the net.

Yet Ancelotti’s side immediately responded, with the home side being awarded a penalty in the twenty-seventh minute as Giorgio Chiellini dragged Sergio Ramos down by the neck to prevent the center-back from heading Luka Modric’s cross towards goal.  The assistant referee signaled for a penalty, which Ronaldo blasted into the top left corner of the net to give Real the lead.

Still, Juventus had every chance of scoring an equalizer, but Antonio Conte’s side dug themselves into the ditch as Chiellini got himself sent off minutes into the second half.  Ronaldo zipped down the right, but Chiellini ran across and sent a wild elbow into the Portugese winger’s face, which referee Manuel Grafe deemed as a red card offense.  Madrid pressured ten man Juventus, and should have doubled their lead when Alvaro Arbeloa cut it into the six-yard from the left.  Although Karim Benzema had a simple tap in at the back post, the Frenchman skied a shinned effort over the bar.  Madrid slowly turned to shambles as their passing accuracy began to degrade, but Ancelotti’s side held on to the lead to take them top of Champions League Group B.
