Aaron Ramsey put in another sensational men of the match performance against his old club

Aaron Ramsey’s incredible season traveled to the place in which his career started, and not only did the Welsh captain score a double again but earned a standing ovation from the supporters of his former club.

Cardiff City fans applauded Ramsey for his goal that put Arsenal ahead as they visited the Cardiff City Stadium, an accomplishment long-term Wales captain Ryan Giggs could not achieve when facing Cardiff in the Premier League days before his fortieth birthday.  However, Ramsey put in a performance Giggs did not.  Even when Cardiff looked like equalizing in the second half of the match, Ramsey’s winner extended Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points.

The home side, which have beaten Manchester City and tied Manchester United earlier this season, didn’t actually put in a bad showing, it was just Arsenal did better.  Brilliant play from Arsene Wenger’s side saw them come so close to scoring the opener before Cardiff even had a chance to impose themselves upon the visitors.  Jack Wilshere rattled the top crossbar with a stunning screamer from the edge of the box after just a minute, and as Cardiff sat back in the opening moments Arsenal exploited the possession, taking the lead in the twenty-ninth minute.  Mesut Ozil curled a cross towards the head of Ramsey from the left and in a cool fashion the midfielder rose up to flick the cross into the top left corner with a gorgeous header.

Yet Cardiff slowly fought their way back into dominance as the match rolled on to the second half, forcing Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny into a work.  The Pole somehow kept out Fraizer Campbell’s low header at the far post from Andrew Taylor’s cross, throwing himself to ground to palm away the six-yard effort.

Malky Mackay’s side continued to push forward, but Arsenal put it to bed just when it counted.  Ozil cut in from the left in the eighty-fifth minute before slipping a perfect through ball into the run of substitute Mathieu Flamini, who slammed a shot into the top corner with his first touch from eight yards to seal the win.

But Ramsey was there to put the icing on the cake three minutes into stoppage time when the twenty-two year old fed it out to Theo Walcott on the right during a blistering counter-attack.  Although Walcott is known to, well, (ahem), hog the ball, the winger unselfishly cut it back to Ramsey on the edge of the box.  Ramsey took one touch to set up the shot and placed it in the top corner from eight yards out to net Arsenal’s third.  Seconds later referee Lee Mason blew the final whistle and the win was confirmed, keeping Arsenal atop the Premier League with three more points.
