Doom and Gloom for Arsenal and Manchester City in Champions League Round of 16 Draw

Manchester City and Arsenal have been handed daunting ties against Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16, following the second round draw in Nyon.  Both paid the price for finishing in second place in their group stage groups as City will have to overcome Barcelona just to reach the Quarterfinals and Arsenal were served with an equally difficult task of defeating the defending champions in what will be a replay of last season’s Round of 16 match-up.

Meanwhile Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side were drawn with Galatasaray, who Mourinho had previously claimed were the club he hoped to be paired with, in what will be a memorable tie for Didier Drogba, who will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since helping Chelsea win the Champions League back in 2012. Manchester United will face perhaps the weakest opponent left in the competition in Olympiakos, while Real Madrid also received a relatively easy job with Carlo Ancelotti’s side facing Schalke 04. Borussia Dortmund’s draw with Russian heavyweights Zenit Saint-Petersburg will be a notable battle between hard-core fans and more hard-core fans, whereas it it will be a case of money verses homegrown talent as Paris Saint-Germain face Bayer Leverkusen.  The most open tie should pan out to be AC Milan verses Atletico Madrid, in what is the only tie featuring an Italian team after Napoli and Juventus both crashed out in the group stages.
