Tom Huddlestone celebrates his first goal in over a year by getting a trim on the sidelines

It was such a spectacular performance by Hull City that Tom Huddlestone even allowed physio Rob Price his memorable afro in honor of his first goal in over a year.  The former Tottenham midfielder not only scored twice in the routing at the KC Stadium but was superb throughout the match, and according to manager Steve Bruce, one of the best individual performances of the season.

“I don’t often pick out individuals but I don’t think I’ve witnessed a performance as good as I’ve just seen from Tom,” Bruce said following the match.

Six second-half goals for the home side, which could have easily been seven or eight, following a solid showing against Manchester United on Boxing Day should call for bonuses all around, while Fulham fans received a place in the relegation zone for Christmas.  Rene Meulensteen has been in charge of the Cottagers for under a month, but the sack is looming on the horizon after the pounding.

Yet to start out with it wasn’t all that bad of a performance from the visitors, who were the first of the two sides to find their footing.  John Arne Riise’s low drive forced Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor into a solid stop after just seven minutes, but Fulham nearly conceded in the nineteenth minute via some Huddlestone magic.  The Englishman’s long range free-kick clattered off the post before David Stockdale somehow managed to push George Boyd’s low effort wide.  Yannick Sagbo’s shot from the left side of the box then whistled inches wide, but the ball seemed to evade the back off the net at every opportunity.

However once the second half began the goals started raining in for Hull.  Ahmed Elmohamady found the opener in the forty-ninth minute when he latched onto Huddlestone’s corner from the right and lofted a volley into the top corner which seemed to just hang in the air as it crossed the line.  Huddlestone was at the heart of the next goal too, as he laid it off to Sagbo on the left for the Ivorian forward to curl an inch-perfect cross into the run of Robert Koren.  Koren slotted the cross into the top corner before wheeling away to celebrate, and did so again just two three minutes later when Boyd turned with the ball twenty yards out from goal and placed a weak daisycutter past Stockdale into the bottom right corner of the net.

Four minutes later it was four for Hull as Huddlestone collected a deflected cross on the edge of the box before driving a low effort just beyond the fingertips of Stockdale.  The midfielder ran over to get a quick trim from the sidelines, and the loss of what must have been hundreds of pounds of hair, equal to quick snip, just energized Huddlestone.  In the seventy-third minute he came inches away from adding a second to his goal tally on the night when Stockdale somehow manged to push Huddlestone’s looping forty-yard free-kick onto the bar, but the ball fell to Matt Fryatt, who slammed home the rebound to bag his first ever Premier League goal.

Six minutes before the end of relegation time Koren put the icing on the cake for Hull to double their previous biggest ever Premier League win when Liam Rosenior sent a low cross into the mixer from the right.  Danny Graham’s mishit first-time shot sent Rosenior’s cross off of the legs of Stockdale into the path of Koren, who made no mistake coolly tapping home Hull’s sixth goal.  It was so good for the home side that Huddlestone trotted off the pitch due to injury despite Hull having no substitutes left, two minutes before referee Robert Madley blew the full time whistle to end the horror show for Fulham supporters.
