Fabio da Silva set to join Freiburg on loan

By on January 21, 2014

Manchester United full-back Fabio da Silva is reportedly on the brink of a loan move to the German club SC Freiburg after making a disappointing start to the season.

Fabio, who moved to United in January 2008 along with his twin brother Rafael, has only made three appearances for the Red Devils so far this season, in the latest of which he was sent off almost immediately after coming on as a sub during United’s 2-1 loss to Swansea City. Due to his poor form the 23-year-old is close to being sent away from Old Trafford on loan once again, with reports suggesting United are in advanced dicussions with the Bundesliga stragglers Freiburg.

Freiburg sit in sixteenth place in the Bundesliga, and would have to face a relegation playoff against a Bundesliga 2 side looking for promotion if they were to remain in their current position.  The club have only won one of their last six matches, yet finished fifth in 2012/2013 and qualified for the UEFA Europa League and will be looking to do that once more, or at least stay up, with the signing of Fabio.
