Arsenal sign Sweden international Kim Kallstrom

Arsenal have completed a deadline day signing of Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow until the end of the season as a short-term replacement for the injured Aaron Ramsey.  Ramsey, who had been Arsenal’s best player for the first half of the season with eight goals and six assists in eighteen Premier League appearances, suffered a recurrence of his thigh problem that keep him out for another six weeks, leading to Arsene Wenger’s late swoop for Kallstrom.

The 31-year-old has won 108 caps for the Sweden national side and has appeared at the 2006 World Cup, Euro 2004, 2008 and 2012, while also playing in 207 matches for French side Lyon during his club career.  Kallstrom moved to Spartak Moskow in 2012 for a little under four million euros, and impressed Arsenal scouts his ability to play as a deep lying midfielder or in a more attacking role.  Arsene Wenger has also spoken highly of the midfielder, saying: “He has proven quality at both club and international level. We welcome Kim to Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, Kallstrom also expressed his delight at moving to Arsenal, saying: “Arsenal is an amazing club with a lot of great players and a coach who has done really well here for a long time.

“I am so pleased to come here to learn as much as possible. I’m here to do my best for Arsenal and to help out the team, so we can achieve good results for the last part of the season.”
