Nemanja Vidic confirms he wants to leave Manchester United

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has taken a big step towards making a move to Italian club Internazionale after confirming his wish to leave England over the summer.  The 32-year-old has spent eight years at Old Trafford, but with the club heading downhill and United manager David Moyes’ reluctance to field a slightly less mobile center-back Vidic has revealed he would like to leave the Premier League over the summer.

Internazionale seem to be the favorite destination for the Serb, with reports claiming that the fallen Italian giants, in a position much lie United’s, have offered Vidic a two-year £50,000-a-week deal to lure him to the San Siro.  Yet that would mean Vidic would leave the club, and country, where he made a name for himself during an incredibly successful career under Sir Alex Ferguson.  The former Serbia international won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and one Champions League trophy while appearing for United 201 times (so far) in a sturdy center-back partnership with Rio Ferdinand.

Yet Ferdinand is also rumored to be on his way out of United, along with another one of the Red Devils’ senior defenders Patrice Evra.  Injury has hurt all three of Ferdinand, Evra, and Vidic’s careers, although having succumbed to two serious knee injuries over the past three, seasons Vidic has spent by far the most time on the sidelines, appearing just sixty-two times in over three years.

Vidic is expected to make a move to Eastern Europe, possibly Italy, whether Internazionale, Juventus or Fiorentina, which are all said to be interested, make a move for the veteran defender, who announced his wish to leave United in a statement released on Thursday, saying:  “It’s the last year of my contract and I have had eight wonderful years here. My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career. I never could have imagined winning 15 trophies and I will certainly never forget that fantastic night in Moscow [winning the Champions League], memories that will live with me and the fans forever.

“However, I have decided that I will move on at the end of this season. I want to challenge myself again and try to make the best of myself in the coming years. I’m not considering staying in England as the only club I ever wanted to play for here is Manchester United and I was lucky enough to be part of this club for so many years. I’ve got a few options to move on and I will choose the right one for me and for my family.

“I am now going to focus all my efforts on playing for Manchester United and do the best I can for the team until the end of the season.”
