Van Persie to consider Manchester United future

By on February 26, 2014

Manchester United star Robin van Persie has given massive jolt to manager David Moyes and Red Devil fans alike with the decision to consider his future at United over the summer.  Although there is understood to be no release clause in Van Persie’s current contract at Old Trafford, which is set to expire in a little over two years, meaning Moyes could deny the Dutchman a route out of United, Van Persie’s position will still remain nerve-wracking for the club.

United already blocked Wayne Rooney a way out to Chelsea last summer, and while Rooney recently agreed to a new contract at the Manchester-based club, their poor form has now lead to another one of their star players wanting out.  The English champions have won just three of their last ten matches, while also suffering losses to Swansea City, Stoke City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea.  A 2-0 loss to Olympiakos on Tuesday has also helped pushed United’s confidence to record lows, leading Van Persie to even hit out at his own teammates.

“Our fellow players are sometimes occupying the spaces I want to play in,” the 30-year-old said.  “And when I see that it makes it difficult for me to come to those spaces as well. So that forces me to adjust my runs, based on the position of my fellow players. And unfortunately, they’re often playing in my zones. I think that’s a shame.”

He added: ” Everyone is very disappointed (with the loss to Olympiakos).”

Van Persie, who has earned seventy-nine caps for the Netherlands, moved to United in the summer of 2012 from Arsenal for £24 million, and in his first season at the club helped them win their record twentieth Premier League title.  The former Feyenoord forward became United’s go-to man, yet has slightly struggled in his form this season after he revealed he was disappointing that former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired.  Van Persie is also sure to be distressed about United’s current Premier League position eleven points away from a Champions League spot in seventh, which is on track to make it the worst ever league finish since the Premier League was formed in 1992.
