Ramsey set to double salary with new Arsenal deal

By on March 4, 2014

Aaron Ramsey is set to become the second highest earning player at Arsenal with a new contract at the Emirates that is worth more than double his previous one.  Arsenal are expected to officially announce the five-year deal within the next few days, and hope the news will give their side a boost coming into a tough Premier League run-in.  The new deal, thought to be worth in excess of £100,000-a-week, will certainly have an affect on Ramsey, who has returned to full training following a thigh injury that has kept him out for two months.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might even have the hope that the 23-year-old can return to the sensational form he was in prior to the injury having been The Gunners’ best player in the first half of the season.  The Welsh international has had a direct hand in 22 goals for Arsenal and Wales so far this season with 15 goals and 7 assists in just 18 league appearances in 2013/2014, leaving Arsenal desperately attempting to hold onto a player which was rumored to have grabbed the interest of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.  Wenger had already fought to sign the midfielder six years ago for £5 million when Ramsey was only 17-years-old, and and would have no interest in losing a player who is heading into his prime.

Ramsey had two years left on his previous deal at Arsenal, but with the new contract he is set to remain there until 2019 and is now likely to help Arsenal to their first trophy in nearly a decade.  The Londoners are currently sitting four points off of the top of the Premier League table in third, while an FA Cup win is also on the cards, with Arsenal set to host Everton in their Quarterfinal tie this weekend.  Meanwhile, Wenger’s side lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, but still could turn it around to win their first ever European title.
