Road To The World Cup Final – Germany

By on July 13, 2014

It is hard to argue against the fact that Germany have been one of, if not the most impressive team at World Cup 2014. The Germans were given perhaps the toughest road to the final of all thirty-two teams which entered the tournament, yet are here nonetheless. Topping the “Group of Death” then beating France and Brazil on their way, the Germans are yet to be in the receiving end of a loss at the tournament. They have broken multiple records, and along the way knocked out some of the favorites. Now they have just ninety minutes, plus the possibility if extra-time, of football standing in the way of glory. And Argentina.

But the Germans have already dared tests nearly has tough, and maybe even more so, than Argentina will prove to be, passing them all. They kicked off their tournament campaign with a convincing four goal win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, and played their classic fluid attacking football. Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos imposed their dominance early on and immediately stood out as Germany’s main attacking points – the former scored a hat-trick against Portugal and also bagged the deciding goal in Germany’s 1-0 win over the US. Prior to that Germany drew Ghana in a wide open thriller, sealing the top spot in the group and pairing them for a Second Round match against Algeria.

Algeria had hardly looked very impressive in the group stages, but held Germany into extra-tim. Once again, counter-attacking play had worked against Germany’s defense. The Germans saw out the win in extra-time, though, and France awaited in the Semifinals. Unlike Algeria, France attempted to outplay Germany and eventually, and obviously, lost. As did Brazil, 7-1, in the famous semifinal meeting. Off the back of that win, it is hard to tell what Germany will do in the final. Whether they will ride on their confidence and easily win, or come in overly confident and cocky. What is for sure is that Muller and Kroos & Co. will provide a stern test for Argentina.
