2013 FIFA Puskas Award: Our rankings

By on November 12, 2013

Fifa recently released it’s shortlist for the Puskas Awards, naming the top goals of the year, but which is the best goal? Here, we show off our rankings.

1. Panagiotis Kone – 16 December 2012 – SSC Napoli v. Bologna FC 1909 – Serie A

The Greek talent adjusted his body in mid-air to smash home a cross with an inch-perfect scissor kick-like volley into the top corner among a crowded penalty area in Bologna’s 3-2 win over Napoli.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimović – 13 November 2012 – Sweden v. England – International Friendly

The ever-surprising Zlatan never fails to amaze, rather like his ludicrous thirty-yard overhead kick against England that lobbed Joe Hart and somehow ended up in the back of the net.

3. Peter Ankersen – 10 August 2013 – Esbjerg fB v. Aarhus GF – SAS Ligaen (Denmark)

A full-back scored this incredible piece of skill to bury a corner in spectacular fashion, chesting it down before smashing it into the top corner from an impossible angle as Esbjerg took on Aarhus in the Danish Superliga.

4. Daniel Ludueña – 27 July 2013 – Pachuca CF v. Tigres UANL – Apertura Mexico

An outrageous David Beckham-esque piece of skill see’s the 31-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder catch the goalkeeper off his line and lob home goal from nearly seventy-yards out.

5. Lisa De Vanna – 01 June 2013 – Sky Blue FC v. Boston Breakers – NWSL

The minute Australian buries Katy Freels’ cheeky assist with an acrobatic bicycle kick but the occasion is rather dampened by….. American commentating.

6. Nemanja Matić – 13 January 2013 – SL Benfica v. FC Porto – Liga Sagres

A technically perfect volley is sent screaming into the top corner on a massive occasion in Portuguese football by the former Chelsea midfielder.  Looks like the Blues should have kept hold of the midfielder.

7. Antonio Di Natale – 07 April 2013 – Udinese Calcio v. AC Chievo Verona – Serie A

Against Chievo in the Italian Serie A is when Antonio Di Natale scored his best goal of the season, sending a precise long-ball in off the post via a cracking left-footed volley.

8. Juan Manuel Olivera – 28 August 2013 – Nautico v. Sport Recife – Copa Sudamericana

Olivera launched this superb dipping volley into the top corner against Sport Recife in the Copa Sudamericana, yet the goal was a step down from others on this list.

9. Neymar – 15 June 2013 – Brazil v. Japan – FIFA Confederations Cup

Neymar’s showcase of his brilliant talent on display at Barcelona was shown against Japan in the Confederations Cup, but has been topped many times.

10. Louisa Nécib – 17 March 2013 – Olympique Lyonnais v. AS Saint-Etienne – D1 Féminine

Nothing out of the ordinary here, although Necib’s goal was perhaps one of the better ones in Division 1 Féminine, France’s top women’s division
