Moyes claims Van Persie is settled at United

Manchester United manager David Moyes has answered questions over Robin van Persie’s future at United after Ronald De Boer claimed the forward was planning a move by saying that Van Persie is settled at the club.  De Boer, a former Netherlands international, claimed Van Persie was “not enjoying the football Manchester United play”, but Moyes questioned De Boer’s information while denying it at the same time.

“I couldn’t reply to that and I wouldn’t know how Ronald de Boer would know that,” Moyes said. “I traveled back from the [Holland] game with Robin the other night. I went to the game, watched them play and traveled back with him. I hardly feel I need to answer the question.”

There was arising fear at Old Trafford that Van Persie would follow club captain Nemanja Vidic, who confirmed he would depart United for Internazionale over the summer, out of Manchester especially with United’s recent slump in form.  The Red Devils have only won two of their last seven matches in all competitions and sit twelve points off a fourth place Champions League spot in the Premier League, leaving the probability of European football at all next season increasingly low.  Midfielder Tom Cleverley’s form has been so bad that 17,000 people have signed a petition formed to exclude the midfielder from England’s World Cup squad this summer, although, or course, Moyes has backed the 24-year-old.

“Tom Cleverley is a fantastic young player who’s developing all the time,” the 50-year-old said. “He is a great trainer. He is first out and every day he does his best in training. He always gives his best and that is why he will succeed.”
