Marvel at the latest Craven Cottage arrival: Fulham Sign Thanos!

By on January 27, 2017

First it was deceased pop icon Michael Jackson and now it is the biggest bad guy in the Marvel Universe, who will turn up at Craven Cottage next? Donald Trump? (as long as there is a wall!) Ewan McGregor? (as long as there is no Piers Morgan!). Championship club Fulham have gone from a ‘Bad’ erected waxwork of singing superstar Michael Jackson outside their stadium, to signing a Greek midfielder with the same name as the evil alien set to terrorize the Avengers next year in the highly anticipated ‘Infinity War’ film. The Blockbuster is currently filming and is set to pit the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk (not the one in China!) against the almighty alien foe in 2018. There is a good chance that this next superhero installment will make even more money than the players in the Chinese Super League!

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side have recruited Werder Bremen midfielder Thanos Petsos on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season. The 25-year-old has made just three appearances since joining the German Bundesliga outfit on a three-year deal last summer from Austrian side Rapid. He is the first new player to make the switch to West London this January, as holding onto already acquired assets seems to have been the Jokanovic transfer strategy this winter window. Keeping Scotland striker Chris Martin on loan from Derby County was the biggest struggle of this player trading period.

Defender Ragnar Sigurdsson is also in the Craven Cottage dressing room, and it was his goal, along with Kolbeinn Sig-Thor-sson’s strike, which helped Iceland beat England at the Euros last year. Fulham currently sit ninth in the English second tier table on forty points – five points off the play-offs – and meet Premier League Hull in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday. There last game was a 1-0 defeat to Reading in the league, who are fourth and managed by former Manchester United legend Jaap Stam.

Thanos vs. Thanos: The SHIELD Level Classified Fact File!

Thanos (Fulham Footballer): Greece international Petsos began his career at Bayer Leverkusen, and has had spells at Kaiserslautern, Greuther Furth and Rapid Vienna.

He is known as ‘Thanos’, but his full first name is actually ‘Athanasios’.

He has made four appearances for the Greece senior side, but could have played for Germany – the country of his birth. Petsos is most often deployed as a defensive midfielder. A fairly Loki career so far, but could do a job in the Championship run in.

Thanos (Marvel Villain): The character of Stones (not John!) collecting Thanos has appeared in three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies so far. He features in ‘Avengers Assemble’ (2012), ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (2015) and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014).

He is the adoptive father of Gamora (not to be confused with Celtic’s Gamboa!) and villainous Nebula.

He derives from Titan and possess many great powers.
